\"\"The Navigation Road Yard owned by Canal and River Trust is up for sale. Join our campaign to save this great piece of Cheshire history, and develop it into a local attraction.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is of tremendous Heritage significance, being the key centre for administration and maintenance for operations on the River Weaver.<\/p>\n

It was first established in 1751 to produce the local wooden locks, then was the HQ of the Weaver Navigation Trust and later for the British Waterways Board.<\/p>\n

The site near Hayhurst Bridge has the administration block (grade 2 listed) which has been much extended over the years and the iconic clock tower used as a time piece for passing cargo ships.<\/p>\n

To the South of the yard is the large maintenance sheds used for repairing the large lock gates and other major infrastructure.<\/p>\n

In addition is the Scotch Derrick crane installed in 1923 for heavy lifting, designed by Royce (of Rolls Royce fame) in Manchester. It has a unique direct current power system.<\/p>\n

Canal and River Trust are anxious to sell off the yard, but the Society believes its key heritage aspects should be retained.<\/p>\n

Behind the scenes, your committee is working hard on this project and will be having further meetings with Canal and River Trust, Cheshire West and Chester Council and other Weaver User Groups.<\/p>\n
