Navigation Yard Sold On

The RWNS have been following developments at the Navigation Yard in Northwich closely.

As reported previously, a section of the land containing the former C&RT offices and including several of the listed buildings/structures, was due to be auctioned on the 23rd/24th September. However, the auctioneers website indicated that this land has been sold prior to the auction.

The northern  section of the site sold prior to auction has been purchased by a cleaning company  who are currently  utilising those offices alongside Navigation Road, and the car/vehicle parking area.

The remainder of the site including the large workshop sheds has now been acquired by a steel stockholding company following a separate sale by Laurence Daw, who purchased the site from C&RT in September 2024. The company is now using the site  of the old CRT warehouses for material storage.

Following these two sales and the previous sale of a house on the  boundary, it would appears that Laurence Daw has now relinquished ownership of the entire site.

The immediate threat of the site being redeveloped for housing and offices appears to have passed, and hopefully there may still be scope for the frontage to the Weaver Navigation to be utilised for heritage and leisure purposes.

We are agreed with Cheshire West and Chester Councillors that the Scotch Derek Crane will be listed as a Grade 2 structure.  This will prevent demolition and non approved removal. This protection we are assured is now in place whilst formal listing is underway.
